Desiree Edwards

A Los Angeles, CA native is the Manager/Chef of Watts Coffee House (WCH), a community staple providing employment and training to young adults with a foodservice interest.  For 20+ years WCH has been a productive entity of the Watts community providing meal sponsorships to various programs and Turkey giveaways for the Christmas Holiday.  Desiree’s primary volunteer work has been with programs providing educational support for youth.

Tierra Gipson

Tierra Gipson is a single mother and also a Compton native. Her educational journey began at Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) in 2013. During this time she  served as a Parliamentarian for the Associate Student Organization. Soon after Ms. Gipson enrolled in East Los Angeles College and transferred to California Baptist University in Riverside. During her time at CBU she earned several scholarships and worked part-time. Ms. Gipson is currently a graduate student at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, majoring in the Cybersecurity/Information Technology Masters degree program. Her aspiration is to eventually work for the Pentagon.

Dr. Shalamon Duke
Ex Officio

Dr. Shalamon Duke received a doctorate degree from the University of Southern California in Educational Leadership, master’s degree from San Diego State University in Rehabilitation Counseling, and bachelor’s from Grambling State University in English. Dr. Duke also holds a certificate in Rehabilitation Engineering. Dr. Shalamon Duke has been involved in education for over 14 years in varying capacities at community colleges, public, and private tier one research universities.  His major functions and interest surround disability, accessibility, student success, technology, and retention.
